Mumbai’s “Garden Suburb" is full of lesser-known histories and local legends.
On this guided walk, we will trace Chembur’s evolution from a coastal village on Trombay Island to one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Along the way, you’ll visit a 200-year-old temple, examine disappearing architectural styles, stroll through a beautiful urban village, and map the neighbourhood’s physical and cultural nodes.
Afterward, we will sit down at Doolally Chembur to enjoy a cold pint and talk about the people, spaces, memories and politics that give the neighbourhood its distinct character.
The walk will be led by Prayag Arora-Desai, a champion loiterer, journalist and communications professional. He has reported extensively on urban planning and climate change for the Hindustan Times. His work has also appeared in Scroll, The Hindu, LA Journal, Firstpost and Youth Ki Awaaz.
